It bothers me. There was a news story a long time ago, must have been ten years ago.. a young man working as an artist, painter. He said on the news that it's better to pay a little for someone that can handle the paperwork and finances, so one can spend more time doing what one wants to do, painting. Then i thought: How is it possible to make a livng like that? There was like several tenfolds of paintings in his studio. But who buys them? Why spend thousands on paintings that has zero precedence, i.e. they haven't been bought and sold, so they don't have any value record? It's like when you go to homestyle shops or even furniture shops, they usually have paintings or pictures for sale. And they do cost a bit sometimes. But they have Zero value once you leave the store with them. I haven't tried reselling them since i don't buy them, but when you see these auctions where paintings by more familiar artists sell, they are not usually very easily sold either. So it's like, whoever is going to buy from those that has no precedence at all?? How can people make a living doing that? Hard to understand. Must be some kind of rich parents' offspring that has nearly unlimited funds to mess around and flood the market with nonsense, hoping to gain a name within 30 years. I mean it just can't be worth it, can it? It's the same as in rock'n roll, you have maybe 1% of the bands being genuine, the rest are opportunists and flat-out phoneys that just produce garbage for the masses just because they can. And this confuses people as to what real art is, it drags down the appeal of the concept.
It's weird and i don't get it. I mean, it's okay, it's okay to mess around a little, do it on a hobby-style basis. But when it comes to like doing it on a business level, it becomes ridiculous to me ... what's the point? Why do something that's supposed to be done on an unlimited time and creativity based level, on a level of time crunch and money limitations? Hard to grasp.
