Been dreaming of such things and being self sufficient for as long as I can remember, quite literally as young as 3-4 years old

Self sufficient from a food perspective is great, off-grid, no thanks. I enjoy rural living, but always want a power connection. Solar comes with so many pains in the ass, battery banks are expensive etc.

What's stopping you from moving north and living out your self-sufficient lifestyle? Family?

few people at my work are doing that. moving to houses out in the boonies but with a line and planning on retiring out there. my goal too one of these days

my buddy on discord lives with family out in denton maryland. 2 acres, and they were on satellite internet for years, and some ISP wanted $50k to place poles and run line out there. so they never did it. eventually one of the ISPs did put a line out there and is now offering fiber, just incredible. he was so damn happy (still is, i bet)
