The only language I know is English, I'm American.

Going to take an Italian course this semester.

My question is: For those whos first language isn't Italian, was it difficult to learn or was it pretty simple?
Will be an intro class.
I'm Italian so this is my preferred one. It's either this or French, I don't want to take Spanish.

French is for pussy.
Spanish is useful cuz is the second most talked language.
Italian is just for passion, it's hard, is harder than learning english as italian (cuz have a lot of grammar rules and more words)
But dont worry wear mustache and u will talke properly our language.

the grammar part is pretty hard but at least the pronunciation part is easy (our vowels always sound the same and there are a very few tricky consonant combos but they are very consistent so once you learn them you are set, you might mess up accents but that's about it).
not a really useful language to learn anyway, only spoken in italy and a small part of switzerland.

excuse me, sir

you already know english because you're american

why the hell do you need to learn** an other language, while the whole world tries to learn yours?

btw i agree with Master Zaveus when he says* tha*t Italian is not very spoken.

If you scroll down the Italian section you will be surprise to see that most of italian people can't speak italian too**

please ignore the "*" it is just the hotkey i have set to "mute" me in teamspeak. Today i'm coughing a lot (and like a very original italian i'm too lazy to delete them)

Haha, I plan to visit Italy some time in the future, so it couldn't hurt to learn a little about the language. Even though I'll probably forget most, if not all, of the things I would learn from this course.

True, pronunciation is pretty useless imo. For this class anyways.

I hate that there's classes for languages in America. I guess it's just to create jobs. It's why I don't want to speak Spanish because I strongly believe the Spanish speaking citizens should learn ENGLISH. We should not have to learn their language.

Spanish is among the most spoken languages in the whole world. That's why.

Spanish is important if you are american, but only to understand that 80% (?) of americans that always speaks it. To learn a second, or third language is sometimes useful sometimes useless. It is going to be useless in your case.

Many people don't learn languages because they need though, but because they enjoy the cultural enrichment that come with it. Given that the only useful languages to learn for you are Chinese which is extremely hard and japanese, which is very easy but kinda less important and hard when it comes to write and read in their alphabets, italian is not a bad choice.

It is not easy but it is not impossible too. Much easier to read than english and we don't have as many expressions as you do. If you just need the credits, I don't see the point of asking. If you actually want to learn it properly, watch as many movies as you can and never be worried of making mistakes. Forget the grammar, forget the cases, forget the pronunciation and just speak as much as you can.

The best way to learn a new language is always the one of little children: try to stay immerse into it as much as possible and forget your own language while you learn.
