Spanish is important if you are american, but only to understand that 80% (?) of americans that always speaks it. To learn a second, or third language is sometimes useful sometimes useless. It is going to be useless in your case.

Many people don't learn languages because they need though, but because they enjoy the cultural enrichment that come with it. Given that the only useful languages to learn for you are Chinese which is extremely hard and japanese, which is very easy but kinda less important and hard when it comes to write and read in their alphabets, italian is not a bad choice.

It is not easy but it is not impossible too. Much easier to read than english and we don't have as many expressions as you do. If you just need the credits, I don't see the point of asking. If you actually want to learn it properly, watch as many movies as you can and never be worried of making mistakes. Forget the grammar, forget the cases, forget the pronunciation and just speak as much as you can.

The best way to learn a new language is always the one of little children: try to stay immerse into it as much as possible and forget your own language while you learn.

I would like to add Russian to the list. The new rich people come from both China and Russia. That's the best to learn as it is now, especially if you need a job :P
