Is this collaborative mode fun? Is it basically feel like another standard ironman?

I did gim with my closest friends on jsp, that I'd gladly lend 5 grand to without a second thought.
Also they're fucking neckbeards, so I knew they wouldn't quit on me.
A lot of gim teams fail because multiple people get bored and quit.

so starting a team in current day won't attract the most trustworthy people

I think with the right people group would be fun yes, i think you need to play with people you more or less know or maybe some you could grow to know better.

I think groups fail because honestly its the same game etc, just a different banking system. People start to feel like they're doing more work than others. Scams, etc, people grow distant blah blah and lets be truly honest, the most "trusted" people have fallen to scams/scamming etc. doesnt matter how trusted you are the world tempts everyone, does it mean people will or wont who knows.

Im EXTREMELY casual for a game player, so the mode for me would be an absolute waste of time in my eyes if you have an ironman started already. going back and doing the same shit over and over and over.
