On the baxtorian falls puzzle what hat does Opposite a number mean? I've been taking it to mean number before the number stated and I keep getting washed away.

Opposite a number means to place it on the pedestal on the other side of the room, but in the same row. Example, if it is opposite the number of the item placed on the northeast pedestal, you would place it on the northwest pedestal.
