idk why so many people stock up on gold? talking about people with end game gear buying 500 mill +
are people using it to buy items when the price is real low in the GE then flood the market when the price goes up on things like with yew logs going up this month?

Depends on the type of person buying the gold.

Someone who's got the end game gear like you said - probably buying it for PvM supplies/final game upgrades (Tbow/Scythe/Inquisitor)

Someone who's got a gambling addiction - as staking is best in game gold, but can also be worst ;)

Someone who's flipping gold, typically from BnP - trying to cash out with their FG

Someone who doesn't have their account maxed and wants to get 99 buyables.

Lots of things influence it

if we were talking a few years ago, an ely would be considered expensive. now a days, it's very easy to get.
i don't think someone spending 500m is a lot. I think most pvmers now a days have atleast 1b to gear with.

few years ago ely was only 280m
now it's almost 1b ;)

500m can be burned easily on supplies if someone is bossing a lot or trying maximize exp per hour with skills they dont have a t 99 yet

ely might have crashed to 280m, but i remember it was steady at 700m-800m.
ely was pretty expensive back then. now most high end pvm drops are 800m+

it's only been in that price range since the release of Inferno, and some other high end content where it actually because worth the price tag for the benefits it gives
I was actively flipping them in the 280-300m price range for a solid year or so around 2015-2016

100m is enough to have decent attempts at endgame pvm anyway. Barely need 50m for cox for example. Bigger bank just allows for bigger mistakes when learning.
