Do you need to have the defender in your inventory for the next one to drop? or can it be in the bank?

If I already showed the npc by the door my most recent defender do I still have to keep it in my inventory?

Defenders can be obtained by killing the Cyclopes in the Warriors' Guild. When the player has acquired a bronze defender, they need to go to Kamfreena and show it to her. The next time that player enters, the cyclopes will now drop the next level defender. This process is repeated to obtain higher level defenders.

You only need to show your most current defender to her in order to get the next drop. I always just equip my best one for the str bonus anyway
