void set worth the grind?

Of course it is. Especially with all helmets and in future you upgrade it to elite void which is bis for many things ingame.

Ive never even played it so im sure theres a little bit of a learning curve.

just got back in a few months back

Pest control is very easy. Just kill as many monsters as possible, prioritize the spinners around the portals. And if the portal gets unlocked kill the portal (after all spinners died).

It's a safe minigame, so you won't loose anything if you die. You could also check the wiki @ https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Pest_Control

Semi afk is good doable, I usually watch vids meanwhile. Just be sure that the activity bar doesn't go to zero
