One explanation I received is due to the deterioration of Ahrims, and if you die it gets returned to you broken (because the chick "picks it up" off the ground for you and holds it). So its returned broken. Where as if you die with mystic, you really lose nothing but the supplies you used in attempt to kill Snake :)

hope they will implement a bandos/arma tier mage set soon
