How the truck does money pouch work? I started a new account after a long break. I looked it up and you never lose money when you die when money is in the pouch? So it's sort-of like a portable bank or am I just confused?

That's exactly what it is.
Even if in wildy, you still keep money.
Any other time (other than wild) if you die, you get gravestone... So you pretty much never lose your shit.
Big mistake on Jagex part... :/ takes away the fun and risk.
