Looks like dead content designed to remove items from the game.
Who is actually gonna spend millions of GP leveling a skill to make Mystic Robes which can be bought off an NPC already? If NPCs still sell Mystic Robes, the price of the robes can never go above that NPC cost, meaning you will ALWAYS lose money from training this skill.
The new gear they want to bring in (upgraded splitbark) will never be able to have higher mage bonus than Ahrims - Community would NEVER vote yes for that, it would kill Barrows. So they are going to make it tank-mage gear. The issue? Mage has always been about stacking your offensive stats because the goal with mage in PvM and PvP situations is to freeze/snare stuff and not get hit at all. There are also overhead prayers on the off chance your target gets loose to melee you.
I just don't see the point of this skill other than to be a massive money/item sink - which, sure, the game needs... but this isn't it. And you just know they are going to tie every single quest they release going forward to this skill and making it a level requirement for everything. I'll vote no because they skill doesn't seem important enough to bring into the game, the content it will create seems like its DOA, and we all know that leveling this skill will become required for several future updates.
Same reason Sailing failed, they were going to tie a bunch of new content to it and people don't want to level a new skill that they don't like just to unlock content. If there was a guarantee that no quests or walled content was going to be coming through this skill, I would vote YES because it doesn't effect me. We all know every quest will need Warding.
Game needs new content, no one is arguing that, but man... what a lazy skill idea.
