Actually, the TeamViewer for Android beta came out mid-late 2010.

Although, I suppose you're half right, in that it didn't become a mainstream Android staple until mid 2012.

Just because you didn't know about it doesn't mean that it didn't exist.

There was also a very limited release Alpha version, pre-2010, but you weren't able to use it without heavy modification on a jailbroken Android device.
It was basically a leak, and wasn't actually intended to be used by the public.
