Laissez-faire as used in the USA, has a little bit more to meaning than just leave it or let it be.
It's more so around the idea that the government should not be involved with business.
Having set prices like the OP is suggesting is something of socialism or communism, but not capitalism.
I don't know where OP is from, I don't go to others profiles, it's just I know Canada takes part in socialism, and the USA takes part of capitalism.
Point is, "free trade" is the "american way of life."
That being said, the US government does regulate some things that protect its citizens from getting buttfucked by companies.
They just use price floors/ceilings (that can change) to protect people.
Minimum wage and credit card rates are examples.
