I can't seem to do shield swap because of the poison coulds always proc and steal it, or the mini wolf things smack me

Heal the big swipe and devotion the flurry. Kill mini wolves with AOE threshholds.

And I'm assuming youd say melee? Also considering making the new fancy armor think that's worth it?

New fancy armor is nice from what I've seen. Yes I typically melee.
