Its never too late to start; you won't be completely untwinked, obviously, but you can start being self-sufficient any time.

I just started a new character like this after seeing this thread.

it's really blowing my mind, realizing that almost every decent method of exp or money requires some form of trading.

And some of the stuff we take for granted as being able to do at any level... Like... I can't use a gilded altar until I can make one, I can't train runecrafting until I mine ess... hell, I can't even teleport until I find or make law runes...

It's kinda exciting, though.
