Sounds like a good plan. I did the same, still saving for bow but honestly if you're geared up, lance is very good at CoX as I'm sure you know. You definitely notice the difference if running solo/CM with a scythe, otherwise just on the melee hand the lance gets it done.
Yeah if you aren't 95+ melee, no real point in a scythe anyways as you want those stats for tob regardless. Elite void w/ kraken tent @99s is probably higher dps than max strength and scythe @85s. Stats are big.
