32 slayer now.
Went from 18-35 magic on a lesser demon task (Still have 30 to kill).
Figured might as well afk them as an excuse to get magic up for teleports without "grinding" for it.
Unless you're looking to rush stats, you should do Slayer the entire way for sure. Doing Slayer just gives variety in NPCs you're killing and it takes a little bit but as you progress your loot will also go up
