Mission Statement
Our mission is to improve the quality of the Runescape Section to make it a more enjoyable place for all. We want to make people more self aware of their own actions and how they effect all the others around them. We would like to decrease the amount of spam and flame that go on in these forums, and turn it positive, or eliminate it all together. In the end, we will have a finished product of a positive and more enjoyable for all to use.

Change starts with you..

Spamming\Flaming
Spamming and flaming has been going on in the runescape section for awhile now, and it isn't needed. Follow the golden rule "If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all" or "Say something good anyway".
Let's see some examples of flaming\spamming:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=42115967&f=267
This post was a result of two members being upset with eachother, and one posting a screenshot of the user having himself blocked.
STOP
Lakeberg blocking the user, was an attempt to prevent any further contact or problems. If the user had respected that, the post never would have been needed.
But the user posts it, what comes about from it? More problems, more flaming and spamming - And now more people are involved\know about it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=42085488&p=281458783
This post was looking for a job to be done. A user felt the need to post the following:

Quote
No one cares about your's or his vouch your 2010 spawns dont even ask for jobs unless people come to you.

Why post this? It does not help the situation, and would have only caused\started a problem.
Thankfully, it was closed before any retalations could start.

http://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=41994543&f=225
This post was trying to sell a white partyhat. Some users felt the need to post the following:

Quote
Not your dumbass again you can even see you just traded for the lend.

1. Why was name calling necessary?
2. How do you know that wasn't a lend\trade for something else?

Solution: Do you actually own this Partyhat? If so, please take a screenshot on the equipment screen so I can bid FG on it.

How was that post responded to?

Quote
Are u fucking illiterate. Clearly You only looked at the picture,

Please, just dont respond to a flame\spam post - That way it dies out, and it's the end of it.

http://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=41954152&f=225
This topic was made on-topic to buy Dragon Claws. A user felt it necessary to post the following:

Quote
erhm NO

1. That is not helpful, at all.
2. It is spam to just get a +1 , and does not help the trade or the buyer in anyway.

Quote
help on d2sp? lol'd

Again, this does nothing to help the topic or buyer, and is just a typical +1.

What would be an appropriate way to respond to this post?
Well, if you dont have dragon claws, or arent participating in the trade at all - Don't post.

Quote
here vs 100fg

Good typical post.

Quote
I'll offer 50fg on his behalf if someone helps him and sells him D claws.

Quote
since austin is such a nice guy i'll toss in the other 50

While these posts aren't selling\offering to sell Dragon claws - They are offering to help aid the buyer.
This isn't considered spam. It's very nice to help people out.
There will be ways you can help out further down this thread, there are so many ways - Even just a nice private message.

Looking to help out?
Do you have time on your hands, and nothing to do? Idle time is bad time they say, and you usually end up doing something you shouldn't.
Why not put that idle time to good work trying to help others and better our section? Try a few of these below and find which one you like the best!

Ideas to help out the section:

  • Keeping the forums clean - Report all violations via the "Report Post" button. This helps keep the forum clean of general spam, etc.
  • Maintain a happy attitude - Every place is better with happy people!
  • Write a guide\suggestion - Write a "How-to" guide, or write a suggestion to improve the section, like editing the rules or adding XXXXXX sub-forum!
  • Make every post count - Stop youreself from posting spam, +1's, etc. They don't do anything for anyone.
  • And more - There are many ways to help out a section that aren't stated here! Brainstorm ideas and get started with them!

Ideas to help out other people:

  • A Question - If someone has a question, give them a thorough answer to help them on their adventures! Runescape is a big place with a lot of interfaces, it can be confusing at times.
  • Private Message - A simple private message saying "Congratulations xxxx" or any compliment goes a long way. People appreciate it more than you think :)
  • Play with people - See someone new? Invite them to hang out with you and your friends and play Runescape. Great way to make a new friend!
  • Request - See someone without a guild, and they meet your requirements? Invite them, they might just be looking for a new group of friends :) .
  • And more - There are many ways to help out a person in need. Donating, helping, and spending time with the person are all ways to help someone out.

A good quote to show what we mean..
Let's try to see this in the RS Section ^_^

Rich in heart, I mean.

Want to be a big helper on d2jsp?

There are many Guides out there saying how to do different things. This is an unofficial Guide to helping on the site. It’s just some things that make a difference.

Here are some things you can do to help keep the site clean:

  • Trading Grounds: Don’t reply to spam in topics. Just hit the report button. Replying to spam only makes spammers feel invited to continue.
  • Repeated spam topics by same user: Collect these and send them to a Trade Assistant (TA) or if TAs are offline, a Trade Moderator (TM). Please don’t report isolated instances using the PM system—it distracts from pressing work.
  • Handling Trades: Use a Mediator. It helps prevent scams
  • General Help: Post here when you see something that still needs an answer. DO NOT post here if the answer was already given, unless you’re the one saying thanks for the help given to you.
  • Signature Violation Reports: Send these to M++s, especially if they are really bad.
  • Personal Differences: Instead of publicly flaming or PM Blocking someone who makes you angry, try to work things out. Often simple misunderstandings become big, ugly messes. A sweeping apology or a few questions in PMs can often turns things around. Use PM Blocking as a last resort (if you’re being abused/harrassed), and try to avoid public posts that make both sides look bad—not to mention its affect on any associated Guilds or friends.
  • Find someone who’s obviously new and take that person “under your wing”. You may be surprised to find that later on--perhaps even a year or two later--someone will PM you to thank you for all your help and understanding.

A lot of people already do their best to help others. This in turn helps the site and builds its vision of community and trading. A few little steps each day really add up. Maybe someone will help someone else and “pay it forward”, and it will create a positive “butterfly effect”, or perhaps you will unexpectedly get something in return for your kindness and selflessness.

So for those of you who don’t have a lot of ideas about how to “help out”, and especially for those of you who are new and want to know what they can do to be productive and really belong here, this post stands as a small testament to good things, and as an accessible reminder (for those who are a bit jaded or bored after all their help) that your actions matter and they are really appreciated.

This should always be in the back of your head when making a post on the forums here. This simple small "guide" is more than just things you would use here on the forums. These are also real life stratigies. For example, your have a personal difference with someone at school; Instead of getting into a fight, try to work things out or talk about it.

Goals

We'd also like to stress the importance for setting self-goals. Written goals are much more likely to become a reality, and help encourage you and remind you what you are trying to achieve everyday.
Be it a runescape goal thread, or a fitness thread (in the appropriate section of course) it is great to make goal(s) for yourself!

Just remember: Goals should be SMART: specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-based.
Set small goals - when you finish those you will have a lot done, and maybe a larger goal done. Small goals are easier to accomplish and add self-esteem.
Make sure you know what you goal(s) is - Remind yourself everyday what your doing and why your doing it, it's a good motivator.
Visualize yourself achieving the goal - This is the "Reward" part. It may be a better community, a better body, or just a happier lifestyle.
Make a plan - Make a plan, stick to it, and write down your goals.
Review your overall progress regularly - See where your at, and what you should improve. Be honest with yourself for the best outcomes.

Dont post if you dont have anything nice to say, just keep it to yourself.
+1's dont help out anyone, and have no positive effect.

All in the guide, please stop spamming.
