If you're looking for some good humor/satire Catch-22 is bested by none. Great Expectations is a good classic, but may not suit your interests. The Count of Monte Cristo as suggested by Kamikizzle has great suspense, and has very intricate action/plot lines.

The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. It is a great fantasy series however it is quite long (11 books at an average of 800+ pages each).
