Well I've been in a slump lately of what to read, so I reread some of my favourite 'ranger' books. Basically books where the MC is a ranger, or trains as one, for a time or so.

Some of the books I've read

R.A Salvatore - Drizzt series, too lazy to name each one ~
Michael Ploof - Whill of Agora, started it and it's good but I need more than one book at a time to occupy my time
Terry Goodkind - Sword of Truth, I guess this can count towards it as Richard started out as a woodsman
Elizabeth Moon - Deed of Paksenarrion, she's apprenticed to rangers at some point
John Flannagan - Ranger's Apprentice, I think this is one of the better ones towards what I seek.

Can't come up with any more right this moment, but anyone got any suggestions?

It have to be fantasy.

You guise, I thought same person posted in response xD

Does it have to be hard-fantasy, like elves, orcs, dwarves, dragons, etc.?
I haven't read many of those at all recently =/

However, I do have some suggestions for fantasy-ish stuff.
I know you've made quite a few recommendations for me in the past, so sorry if some of these are stuff you've already read and reccommended to me xD

With all the talking about Lies of Locke Lamora on this forum I'd be surprised if you've not read the books yet. If you haven't, you definitely should.

I'm currently going through all the Dresden File books at work, there are something like 12 of them and they're fairly entertaining. They are about a wizard in modern Chicago who works as a private investigator and police consultant. There are other forms of magic users, spirits, ghosts, demons, fairies, werewolves, vampires, etc. I've never much been into the occult kind of stuff like this, but it's really neat and you learn a lot about all these myths (unless the author is just making them up instead of using pre-existing myths)

Codex Alera was very good as well, about people who can control elements set in Roman times in an alternate universe.

I'm kind of disappointed I can't think of anything else =/

I did find this link, and I'll probably be looking into some of the mentioned books myself xD

have you seen the tv series for dresden files? iirc Spike @ btvs voices the books on audible

looks like Codex Alera has a female narrator but sounds like an old lady :(

No I haven't seen the show, but yeah it's James Marsters who narrates it, and does a pretty good job.
Also, it's weird that Codex Alera would have a female narrator, but I actually read those books. They were one of the last books I actually read instead of listened to xD.

Checked it and I've read most or discarded the ones they've suggested. As someone else in that topic wrote "I do not care enough about the characters to want to read more than a few chapters" :\

@Furbyjs
It's alright! Hard to come up with 'ranger' themed books to be honest. And no it doesn't have to be hardcore fantasy. I'd mostly just want a fantasy world where as technology haven't been invented yet. Such as guns and cannons.

Lies of Locke Lamora <33 I'm on the second book at the moment, savouring it ;>

The Dresden files - I've read the first book, really good to be honest, for a 'modern time setting fantasy' if you get my meaning. I'd definitely be reading the continuations later on. No ranger though, at least not in the first book :\

Codex Alera really that good? I think I tried the few first chapters but didn't get past it. I've heard a lot good stuff from it though so I might just pick it up to be honest.

And recommendations from that Reddit thread:

Anthony Ryan's Blood Song - Reading first book atm and enjoying it A LOT. Definitely a good read for everyone. Can't wait till the second book gets released here in Sweden.

The Night Angel Trilogy, Brent Weeks - Well read it like 5-8 times each one of them so ^

Riftwar, Raymond E.Feist - Read those as well, actually my first books I ever picked up, got me hooked on reading ;>

Farseer trilogy by Robin Hobb - Read this one as well some years ago. Decent one.

Trudi Canavan's Black Magician - Reread this one recently. Might pick up the prequel and sequels though ;o'

Well honestly it's pretty hard to recommend books to others - I speak from experience - but cheers so far for all of the tips ;>

@Mezen
Thomas Covenant series seems decent, gonna check them out. Think someone here spoke about it ages ago.

Gary Paulsen's Survival books is it named like this? I can't find it on goodreads ;o

And the other one doesn't seem like I'd like it ^^ Thanks for the tips though!
