i cant remember the title of a book i read about 12 years ago or so

it was a child's or teenager's book, some sort of fantasy story

i think the cover had a ship at sea on it and maybe even a skeleton? the book itself didnt have pictures though

all i can remember about the book:

its about 3 people (i think teenagers), 2 guys 1 girl. they have magical abilities i think

at one point they go to a tavern and someone pulls a knife on them and one of the guys breaks the knife on the table they are sitting at with one hand (i explicitly remember the author describing this in quite some detail; which fingers he used and how he angled the knife on the table to break it)

i believe they are attacked by a giant sea monster towards the end and the girl almost? dies. i think she is resuscitated though



im pretty sure this is a series of books, i only read this one, and like i said it was ages ago and it came back to memory slightly and has been bothering me for the past couple of years so id really appreciate any help in this matter

i hope i gave enough information about it so that someone might recognize it
also its definitely not a goosebumps book or anything but it probably targets the same age group
