i just finished Brandon sanderson's Mistborn, and loved it! looking for a new series to start. Ive read Wheel of Time, ASOIAF, Kingkiller chronicle, and tried to start gardens of the moon, but put it down after the first 3 chapters because it was a little exhasting. however if you guys think i should try to stick it through gardens of the moon i will.

im debating between these, which i already have:

the blade itself - joe abercrombie
wizard of earthsea - Ursula K. LeGruin
The dragonbone chair - Tad williams
The lies of Locke Lemmora - Scott lynch
Gardens of the moon - Steven eriksson
magician: apprentice - Raymond E Feist

other recommendations welcome

I felt the same way about Gardens of the Moon. But people told me to keep reading it, so I tried did. I dunno. I read this review http://nethspace.***/2011/04/review-malazan-book-of-fallen-by-steven.html and it kind of changed the way I viewed the series.
You have to kind of read it as if it's a piece of literature, rather than a fantasy series. It's quite dense. And if you don't think it's dense, then you're reading it wrong. You need to take a step back every few pages and actually think about what you just read and think about why Erikson told you it. The books are absolutely littered with philosophical ideas and arguments.

With that in mind, I'm enjoying the series a lot more. But I need to be prepared for it. It's not the type of book that you can pick up and read a few pages before bed because if you do that, you'll miss out on so much stuff (I've had to go back and reread chapters because I wasn't paying attention as much as I should have been). It's definitely a challenge. But so far, for me, it's worth it.

If you don't want to put in the effort though and are just looking for a fun read, I would recommend you put it off just a little while longer, it'll be worth saving.

cool, reading the malazan review you linked now, it sheds new perspective for sure.

currently about 20% through the lies of Locke Lemora, its fantastic. most books take me 50-100 pages to get fully immersed, this one took about 4 paragraphs... great writing

You read A way of kings yet by sanderson? I liked it better than mistborn tbh. Elantris and warbreaker are also pretty good by him.

I haven't read the first law series but did read the 3 books after it (best served cold, the heroes, and red Country) Thought they were all good reads.

Richard K Morgan's A land fit for heroes is pretty good, not your typical fantasy though at all.
