Definitely check out A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin and The Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss.

2 unfinished series's... you are an evil person... mine as well throw in lightbringer by Brent Weeks...

There is no hell like waiting for a series to be finished...

When steig larson died after only writing 3/10 books for the girl with the dragon tattoo... words cannot describe the pain... but atleast the 3rd book did not end like the 2nd... would have been horrible!

Robert jordan, died before final books, fml! Though brandon sanderson is doing a decent job finishing it ;>

OT:

The Night Angel trilogy - brent weeks
TWoT - Rober jordan (last books Brandon sanderson)
Demon cycle trilogy - Peter V. Brett
Dark elf Trilogy (legends of drizzt) - R.A Salvatore
King Killer Chronicle - Patrick Rothfuss

Tbh kinda hard recommending similar series to Malazan book of the Fallen, coz they're pretty unique..imo
