I have an great idea of a SCI-FI type story, but im not the strongest writer. is it possible to get something published by getting someone else to write the story for you if you just have the idea? or is it something where you need to be good at both?

Are you saying you want to sell this idea to someone who will make a big thing of it?
Or are you saying that you just want someone to write a story for you (and it not be a big deal)?

I'm sure someone would gladly write a story given the latter.
If you did the former, expect no credit. If someone ends up making a popular story out of your idea, they will get all the recognition (after all, they would have done the work).

However, either way, don't expect much credit.

You could write up a a general outline/synopsis for a story. You don't really have to be a strong writer for that, simply be creative. Then you could ask a friend to write it for you.

Youll have to write it yourself, a good idea for a story is something but actually writing the thing is something very different, mostly because the idea you have in your mind as it is will only give you a few pages right away, youll have to develop dialogues, maybe create new characters/personality traits, describe scenarios, among other things you havent thought about it yet(at least not thoroughly I imagine).

No one is born a writer(the talent might be there but at a raw form in the beginning), but creativity is more of a personality feature, so if you have it you can start writing. Dont mind grammar errors and such, after you write a bit ask someone who has a good understanding of the language to point out some of the mistakes. Youll get better eventually.
