I'm 24 (sigh) college grad and I've never read a book ever.
I mean I've skimmed some books fir school and such. I FELT like I read certain books like a catcher in the rye because we covered them so extensively but I never read them.

Is this a sin? I just feel like I could be doing other things when I read :(

Is reading for everyone? I mean I read all day on the internet and stuff but no stories like a book...
What wohkd you recommend ?

I was in the same situation as yours, and still sort of am.

I started reading The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins back in 2010 and I still have like 2 chapters to go. I can't seem to focus whenever I read. My mind wanders and without knowing it, I managed to 'read' a couple of pages without absorbing any of it. Guess the satisfaction from the instant-rewards I've gotten from gaming over the years has totally destroyed my ability to focus on something that yields a reward in the long run.

i recommend something shorter first. Something like goosebumps can be read in 20-60 minutes. If it takes many hours to read he'll risk losing interest.

@op: go to audible. i think they might still have a free trial going. you can download a free audio book and listen to it. when you're unmotivated to read a book you put it down, but audio books keep going so you can wait for something more interesting to come around

as for picking the book, what genre movies do you watch? if you're into anime, try the manga.

Best thing is to find something you truly ENJOY reading and start from there. Don't try anything fancy - you'll get bored & discouraged fast.

Try "Sh*t my dad says", it's a comedy/memoir and a quick read :p

R.L. Stine is without a doubt the worst writer I have ever read. If you kinda liked Catcher in the Rye, Salinger has an equally great collection of nine short stories called Nine Stories. I would strongly suggest it.

i suggest start small with novellas. skill at reading requires you to quell your need for instant attention, which you can do over time by simply reading on a regular basis

reading is good for everyone, so its prolly worth a try. if you want any sugestions hit me with a pm

your best bet is to go to a bookstore and spend sometime broswing the different sections, i love this.
something will catch your eye.
and you will read it
