The Name of the Wind
The Wise Man's Fear
Both by Patrick Rothfuss. They're part of a trilogy based around a protagonist named Kvothe who, as in most fantasy novels, starts his life low in the world and works his way up in a myriad of ways. The story itself is told by the Protagonist throughout these 2 books, Chronicling (hehe anyone who's read it will get that joke) his life.
Honestly, both books were horribly hard to put down. I read them so often that my girlfriend got mad at me for being boring and reading all day for about 4-5 days straight. The first book was just over 750 pages I believe, and the second is 1107. They're pretty big, but totally worth every second I spent reading them.
It's been a while since I picked up a book I didn't want to put down. Even when I DID put it down, it was always in the back of my mind. "What will happen next? How will he react to this? What does this puzzling phrase mean? A simple foreshadow, or something else entirely?"
The only thing that had me literally raging is the fact that the third book isn't out yet, and may not be for a couple years.
All in all, aside from not being a fully published series yet, this was one of the most satifsying reads I've had in over a year.
Pick it up, and don't put it down till you've read it cover to cover.
