Recently got into Stephen Baxters books

just read through his Manifold series some of the most amazing books ive ever read ( and ive read hundreds of books)

just the sheer scope of his ideas and the massive timescale is so incredible i had to read some parts twice it was so amazing

he used to be an Aeronotical Engineer for NASA the guy is a fucking genius and it shows in his writing

also been really loving John Scalzi ( not hard sci-fi )
but hes one of the most entertaining authors ive come across in years

anyone else got any great sci- fi?

nn generic enders game bullshit
bradbury, bear, asimov or anything super mainstream ive prolly read it already

Read A Canticle for Liebowitz by Walter Miller--probably the best sci-fi book ever.

Baxter is my favorite sci fi author of all time ^^ Any of his books are great (the xeelee sequence is beyond words, this includes the Destiny's children trilogy, but anything set in that particular verse, that series is what he's best know for imo). His NASA trilogy is very interesting as well, here he takes a break from the universe scale writing, instead focusing on space travel with current and past rocket systems, in one (I forget if this happened in Titan or Moonseed) NASA has to break out the old Saturn V engines, and engineer them to mesh with contemporary systems.

Baxter also wrote a sequel to The Time Machine, he meshed both his own ideas (you've read his stuff, it's just ridiculous the amount of thought that goes into it) with the style of writing used in the original.

Evolution was a very intriguing read too (not only does he know his stuff about aeronautics and theoretical physics, he knows his biology as well.

He also co authored a series with Author C. Clarke, haven't read these yet, but they're bound to be good.

Try the Xeelee sequence first imo ^^, it has the same universe wide epic scaling of the manifold trilogy (fans debate where exactly to start, imo Vacuum Diagrams is a good place, as it gives a broad overview of the xeelee verse through short stories, and the novels fill in the gaps so to speak).

I've never looked into Flood/Ark, let me know if they're good ^^ and I'll check out Agent. Have you read any of the Culture novels? (Iain M. Banks). They're definitely worth looking into when you have the time ^^
