Do you need to imagine the story going on in the front of yours eyes to appreciate your book? In most of the books that I've read from the past (in school), if not all, I've not enter in a story. I can't really say that I've never really appreciated a book.
How do you appreciate your books? I think most of the times that I read a book, I read it like if it were for a test, I read back sentences and read really slow. (I read about 30 pages per hour)
I read a bit, but it's mostly science magazines.

I'm not sure if I don't get in the right mood when I read a book or if it is just me that can't fit with books. I mean, I watch a LOT of movies, and enter in the history and can analyze them. (Color choices, Camera angle, type of plan, camera movements, how the actors act, the music, etc..)
It might be that I don't have enough imagination to visualize the story in books.

Should I try reading books of movies that I liked - such as clockwork orange ? Do you think that reading books is a taste that one develops?

To me it really depends on the kind of book I'm reading...
If it's one of those action packed and plot based books, I read quickly and picture the characters in my head (their expressions, how they're moving and talking)...basically make it feel as if I'm watching a movie lol.
But if it's like a classical literary piece or philosophical (very thought provoking) book, I like to pace myself and appreciate each sentence.

Idk though, it also depends on my mood...but I think it's better if you try not to obsess yourself in HOW you read the book (rather, just read it and let your mind go wild).
The only way that I see that you can "improve" your imagination is by reading a lot of books.

I personally don't really like reading books I've seen movies of, since it limits your imagination (for example, you have the actor's face stuck in your mind rather than having your own image of that specific character)

If you are reading a book for academic purposes like school, the chances are you are not going to enjoy yourself. I personally have never been a reader throughout my school life. I never enjoyed reading and therefore, would never read. Once I graduated from High School I picked up a fantasy novel and decided to read it for the purpose of enjoyment. I got hooked into the story. Ever since then I began reading a new novel every 2-4 weeks. It is important pick up a book with the mind set that you are expecting to get enjoyment out of it, not just reading for the sake of reading. So my advice is to pick up a book which resembles a type of movie you like: romance, sci-fi, fantasy, etc...

There is also a huge benefit to reading, even just reading for enjoyment. Reading undoubtedly helps expand your vocabulary.
