Yes--great book (much better than the movie, and the movie was pretty good). Saramago is one of the better recent Nobel winners. "The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reyes" is even better, by the way.

Everyone in a city (and presumably everywhere else) starts to go blind except for one woman who retains her sight. It's about coping with the panic and hardship that ensues.
