I recently got back into reading and I am looking for fantasy books similar to George R.R. Martin's Ice and Fire, Jim Butcher's Codex Of Alera, and Raymond E. Feist's Midkemia. Basically, books that have a medieval setting with a bit of magic incorporated into it.

search for Forgotten realms, there are hundreds of books based on them, by loads of authors.. elves, dragons, trolls, dwarves, epic battles, wizards etc etc... i love R.A. Salvatore myself.

alternatively if you are young and like Feist then David Eddings is for you, he's like a PG // 13 version of Feist

I am 20 years old and I like Feist because he was the author that got me hooked onto reading fantasy books with The Magician's Apprentice. I thought that George RR Martin would establish the reading age group I am in.

e/ Which volume of the Forgotten Realms should I start out w/?

try the emberverse series of books

also called "the change"

Forgotten realms, you will have to do a little research, but start out with one of the books in the lone drow series, the ones involving drizzt, these are some of the favorites

most FR books will incorporate quite a bit more magic + adventure and a bit less of the whole medieval thing, though there is certainly well-described metal-on-metal fights as well

I think you might like Sabriel, Lirael and Abhorsen by Garth Nix.

You should definitly look into R.A. Salvatores Demonwars saga

its multiple books long so if you like the first youll much to look forward to

but were he truely shines as an author is in The Legend of Drizzt novels, from the very first book Homeland i was hooked, mostly because it actually starts at the heros brith and contiunes long after, multiple books as well and an extremely recognizable character and author in the fastasy genre.

Oh if your looking into Forgotten realms, then yeah R.A. Salvatores books are hands down the best, it has everything, love, betrayal, brutal fights, wars, laugh-out-loud moments...but you should start from the very first book Homeland if you are going to start at all, otherwise it will runine it for you, because each book is a continuation of that last, they pick up right were the last left off.

Oh, where to start.

I Have read nearly all the books mentioned in the previous posts. I agree that David eddings would be close to what you're looking.

Author : Terry goodking.
Series : Sword of truth series.

This is a very good series similar to that of Robert Jordans Wheel of time, only better. Probably one of my favourites along with feist and Robin hobb. It's fantasy on an epic scale. Must read.

Author : Robin Hobb
Series : The Farseer trilogies.

This is the first series in a set of series that all connect. It's brilliantly written and really draws you in to the character. This is a must read.

Author: Jennifer Fallon
Series: Second son trilogy

If your looking for something just a touch different and written with some of the best intrigue and plot's you can imagine, this is for you. Although its set in a medieval world, it has no magic. The intelligence of the protragonist is just amazing. As with all the books I like, this is a must read ;)

I think that will do for now. If you want anymore books just pm me (I know many) ^^ Gl with your search.
