How many of you guys actually read contemporary fiction? For whatever reason, I absolutely cannot stand the stuff that is being written today. I also believe that the quality of literature absolutely plummeted since the early 1900's.

Anyone else agree?

I can only stand to read classic stuff like Beowulf, Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy, etc.

If you care to vote, at least care to post. This is the literature forum, you shouldn't be afraid of a sentence or two.

I don't know...

How could you not love Pride and Prejudice and Zombies?

So you don't care for Twilight and Harry Potter...

Obviously, there's a lot of good stuff out there, and I'm more interested in what you like vs. what you've tried.

Until I know that, I can't say, "well, you haven't seen *insert book name*" or "you should try *insert another title*".

But I must say that I disagree. :P

There have been some of the greatest poems ever since the 1900's so don't just assume they all suck.

I do agree that old time literature are indeed classics, But there has been a majority of modern works that interacts with your soul.

A lot of modern work is very cliche, but you have to know where to look for great books.

omg i totally agree with you, although i wouldnt put the cut off date at 1900 cuz i wouldnt exclude jane austen, the brontes etc, but my God, modern times it is absolutely ridiculous, the only new books i can read are biographies and those are badly written biographies, but only interesting because of the life that is lived

and personal footnote, im not particularly impressed with Hemmingway, Faulkner or Joyce

another p.s. notice, the topic is fiction, not poetry
