looking for good novels with the basis of a post-apocalyptic world or similar themes,
or
books based on solitude (i.e. stranded on an island, stuck somewhere, etc.)

Not really what you are looking for, but the Dark Tower series by Stephen King takes place in a post nuclear type setting, but involves some time travel to the modern world also.

the Genesis of shannara trilogy (prequals to the Sword of Shannara series) are about post apocalyptic america, set mostly in seattle/oregon
