hello, i was just wondering in what order i should read tolkein's middle earth basis books. i've got LotR, the hobbit, the silmarillion, the children of hurin and untold tales of middle earth, but i havn't read any of them besides LotR and the hobbit. and if there are any others on middle earth i'm unaware of, i'd like to know, thanks.

Just read the silmarillion after hobbit + Lotr, that's what I did and it's really good because I think that is how it was supposed to be read before the other books (after tolkien died) went out

Snape does not kill Dumbledore in the last Harry Potter, it was the sixth. And please try to stay on topic.

I read the Hobbit first, then LotR books, then the silmarillion, and it flowed real easy.

That was the best you could do to spoil the Harry Potter books?

the children of hurin was great, why isn't Tolkien in text books yet? It should be required reading don't ya think?

The untold tales of middle earth will be much easier to understand after the silmarillion. There is a basic version of the tale of the children of hùrin in the silmarillion btw.

thanks for all the info gentlemen, i've been away, and while i was away i read 1984 for the first time. it was a lot better than i had imagined it to be, and all the hype it's gotten around here i felt was well deserved. really great. and i also read more of Moby-Dick, complete and unabridged that's been a little project of mine recently. i read every chapter twice so i fully understand what's going on and don't miss a thing so it's been taking me a while.

again, thank you for the information, regards.
