I just read both. I didn't really like My best friend leonard. It was pretty boring.
I had a bit of a hard time with A Million Little Pieces. Mainly b/c I lost a good friend to drugs a couple years ago, and a lot of it seemed to hit me pretty hard. I felt like I wanted to stop reading it, but couldn't.
My Best Friend Leonard seemed to be a lot like a bad movie sequel. It wasn't interesting, and there really wasn't much of a story behind it. I wasn't too impressed with it.
Although I enjoyed both books, I see your reasoning.
Sorry about your friend, the book may come on a bit blunt
