How's this:

Insomnia

Eyes open, lights closed
An old man contemplates a world so unseen
Emptiness of a starless sky reflects its woes
Afraid to drift into a tormented dream,
yet fearful of a reality demanding only green.
Tossing and turning
The clock's hand ticks gracefully on the wall
yawning and churning
Another grain of sand in the hourglass falls.
Drowned by the silence of the night,
Broken only as his breath continues to fight
A full moon sinks at the crack of dawn
as fresh sunlight devours the world of darkness
The choir of the morning fowl sings
and slowly replaces the sound of every breath
Curiously wondering what it brings,
An old man awaits the gift of death.
Eyes closed, lights open
An old man rests his humble head
lying lifeless upon his bed
Asleep forever at last,
in the land of the dead.

An old man with insomnia keeps him awake in the middle of the night. As the night ends and the day begins, he draws his last breath and is finally able to rest and escape the world he's known for so many endless years.

The idea is that he is suffering in the night, darkness, etc, and the light of day brings him peace, but through death. Death is not an end, but a means to an end.

just something I came up with right now, let me know if you like it.
