some shit ive read and enjoyed.

terry brooks
terry goodkind
robert jordan
raymond e feist
george rr martin
lloyd alexander

i think you guys get the point. i like fantasy. would prefer something a bit more grown up than some of these. i do not like sci-fi. lookin for fantasy suggestions. let me know if you guys have any.

some authors i have been suggested to check out are steven erikson and salvatore. any thoughts on these 2?

also- not be incredibly picky but as would seem obvious i love a good series. prefer to have a bunch to tackle instead of a 1 hit wonder.

The Name of the Wind- By Patrick Rothfuss- Very good writer, and excellent story telling.

R.A Salvatore you said? Drizzt series is pretty popular; I suggest you try buying the trilogies and reading them together. Dark elf trilogy was very satisfying, and technically the first of the sequel, but I read Icewind dale trilogy first, because it was written first I believe..

Steven Erikson is my favorite active author, followed by George R. R. Martin. If you liked the works of the latter, you'll love the works of the former. I'd also recommend Tom Lloyd's 'Twilight Reign' series -- he's stated that both authors have influenced his writing, evidenced by the combination of epic fantasy and gritty tone common amongst the three of them.

Legend by David Gummell is one of the best books I've ever read. The sequels in the series are not good at all and I couldn't even finish the next one, but the first book is awesome and ends itself (i.e. you don't need to read the next books for the story of this one to end). The next couple of books are just set in the same world.

Why don't you like sci-fi ? Because of all the overly technical themes? Because imo most sci-fi is alot more mature than any fantasy.
Try something from Philip K. Dick, it definitely won't disappoint you, and you really take something with you after reading one of his books (he wrote blade runner, minority report ( just a short story), total recall ( short story ), a scanner darkly, the idea for matrix and lots more ). Awesome !
