I love these books. He is still writing the series, it is a kings / knights / wars / castles type of series but directed at an older crowd. He is very descriptive and sometimes gorey with his fight sceens, for example a charcter knows as Biter has filed his teeth into points and has been know to rip flesh from his foes during combat!

Edit: -- Omg I can't belive I forgot the dragons... but i'm on like book 4-5 and the dragons are still very young and there are only 3 in the world. I can't wait to see them in battle!

Books from the series

A clash of Kings
A storm of swords
A feast for crows

Hmmm. my memory fails me, there is more I think and that is not the right order.

I don't mind the series, they haven't offended my sensibilities as of yet... Insest?????? and in the first few pages, .... twisted but I guess that is my fairly narrow-minded opinion...

Anyway, at least you haven't offended me. I can see that you are a true product of evil tongue.gif. I mean, Padan Fain? A combination of the Dark One's own evil, Mashadar, Masin Sin and the general human hatred which caused Shadar Logoth to turn in on itself. I don't think you could have chosen any more sinister and evil character around in WoT. ... ... and insane, don't ever forget insane.... and powerful, I mean to kill someone with a look? and he takes it literally too tongue.gif.

I like where your taste in literature lies, but I am slightly alarmed at you so obviously fawning over some seriously twisted, warped, demented, insane, vile, evil characters...

There is no question that Martin writes the best fantasy in existence. The only fantasy that could possibly outdo his work is Jordan's WoT, but I normally opt for Martin if I am forced to select a favorite. This is after reading WoT four full times (Knife Of Dreams only once though) and SoIaF three full times (A Feast For Crows only twice) over the last five or six years.

If anyone is interested in reading fantasy on a scale not comparable to other fantasy (yes, that includes the likes of Salvatore, Brooks, Goodkind, Rowling, Pratchett, Eddings, and so on), George R.R. Martin and Robert Jordan is where you would find it.

I suppose I could have, or perhaps should have, added Tolkien to that list of authors even though I personally find LoTR to be a big YAWN. I grant respect and credibility for him and his series being ground-breaking, but I nonetheless find the novels to be a strung out mess which he continuously attempted to save by a terribly huge amount of deus ex machina(s).

GRRM owns all. Before reading his work, I like RJ as well, but GRRM beats him hands down.

RJ = Too wordy
GRRM = wow!

I know, that's a horrible critique, not real details, but er, I just wanted to join the conversation more than add anything constructive. wink.gif

GRRM is stunning.
He could lay off the rape and sex scenes a bit though.

I completely disagree with you, and I mean totally. RJ gets wordy on occasion but if you follow the intrecacies of the carefully laid down plots and sub-plots that are the 12 or so WoT books then you can only gasp in awe. Furthermore, GRRM is much more lewd, not that it is necessarily bad, but it would appeal more to a certain kind of people .... happy.gif

bringing up Fain's post. Let's make this the "official" 'A Song of Ice and Fire' thread, since most people don't scroll down the few pages of topics here to find topics. They make new ones happy.gif ...
