I finally finished this wonderful book. It took me around 5 days, I just couldn't put the damn thing down. I simply love how Orwell conveyed so many idea through his negative utopia of Oceania. THe sad truth is a lot of what was written in the book seems like a cold reality, or at the very least a reality in the next several years. Threats of wars and terrorism almost make it appear like such a world could and possibly will exist one day.

But anyhow going to pick up Fahrenheit 451 next, anyone have any thoughts or comments about that one? Or thoughts about 1984?

Oh yea and.... two and two make five...

1984 is one of my favorite books of all time. I suggest you pick up other works by Orwell.

i read it I thought it was intriguing but certainly not captivating.

Nothing ever really happens in that book. Its just "this is the way things are, that is the way things should be. Life sux" basically.

If you liked Orwell, you should read Yevgeny Zamyatin's We. If you really want to familiarize yourself with American utopian literature, however, there is no better place to start than Edward Bellamy's Looking Backward: 2000-1887.
