this is my brothers story that he wrote for a english class he is in, enjoy and have fun leaving coments...
A heavy breeze swept over the meadow and through the branches of a single tree. The tree had seen everything since it had been there since the beginning of time, though it was only a couple hundred years. This new planet not yet named as covered with places just like this, but also stained with industrialized blotches.
A low rumble started in the ground. Over the horizon a crowd of muscle-lined figures galloped. Each of their four feet rhythmically trotted on the plain. One horse lagged behind, one who seemed to be the smallest. One wrong step could end with disaster. A metal beast was tearing through the wooded lands behind them, destroying thousands of homes. The roar of its engine and the sound of trees snapping could be heard from miles away. As the sharpened killing machine neared the smallest horse, a sudden explosion bellowed from the middle of its entangled mess of metal organs. A shock wave blasted over the plains, knocking down most of the steeds. They were safe, for now.
In the city next to the grasslands, meticulous laughing could be heard in the center of this metal jungle, a grand building had just been completed. A black and red flag with intricate designs, too complex for most, was flown on top of the middle of the seven steeples. Each one represented the freedoms and rights the people had. Speech, love, trust, cheerfulness were all included. But the banner flying above it took most away.
Inside the main building was a tantalizing room filled with solid gold bricks and diamonds. Mounds of each were placed so that a walkway didn’t exist. The door creaked open to reveal a most horrible sight, the loathsome Governor Heinakin.
A crooked grin accompanied his jaw and perfect blonde, straight hair. Black velvet was covering his body, only interrupted by his perpetual red tie. As always, a shimmering light floated next to him, but for now was too translucent to describe.
While most horses struggled to get up, the smallest horse, Mane, got up using his stature to his advantage. Looking behind at the mechanical fiend, mane noticed a tree’s leaves were rustling, but the wind had already stopped. A short scream and a thud later, a teenage boy had landed in front of the horse.
Looking up after his fall, the boy was immediately surrounded by long snouts and occasional whinnies. A thought rushed through his mind, but this thought wasn’t his. Hid brain started to swell, his mind aching with every heartbeat. Until finally, his body gave in, letting the thought into his mind. What followed was a simple “Hello”. Looking around, he only saw horses. He thought that only a human could penetrate his skull’s protectiveness. But as if to remove all doubt, he heard,” Wow, he’s only got two legs!” Instantly he realized which horse it was.
Mane started to examine the boy, wondering where he came from, why he was in a tree, and, most importantly, why he was still on the ground. With every question, the kid seemed to wince. Wondering what was causing this, Mane examined him further.
He had a weird blue fur covering his legs, except where a tan color crept through in several places. On his chest he had a dark green, thick material that was loose and had a weird hat attached near the neck. One foot was different than the other. While the one on his right side had a red background and a white stripe, the left side had the same color as the tan parts on his leg. His head was oblong shaped, a round skull, ears on the side, and such a small nose! This was absurd. The only protection on his head was a thick patch of fur, a color that closely resembled the dirt that covered the rest of his body. But the last thing this horse noticed was the glinting piece of metal on his right wrist. When the shadow made by the boys arm was over it, Mane could make out four distinct symbols. “J A C K” was imprinted on the band. Complete gibberish to the horse, he continued to mentally ask questions.
Finally rising from his crash position, Jack carefully rose, not to startle the only horse left. He noticed how small he was immediately, but also how beautiful he looked. Four defined legs supported a thick body covered in a soft black and gray coat, glistening in the sun. His long black mane flowed all the way down his neck and his full, bushy tail was stunning. His height didn’t diminish his beauty.
After all this, both knew that they could somehow communicate with their minds. After about twenty minutes of questioning each other. Their entire life stories swapped between conversations. Eventually, the topic Jack had been avoiding came up. So, why were you in that tree? , Mane asked calmly.
Well, Jack responded, my district is ran by a conniving Governor who wants to take out all forests and nature itself.
Why would he want to do that? Mane pondered.
No one knows, really. The only reason why he got into office is because of his Lt. Governor Raipe. She’s a fairy and uses her powers to help the Governor. Just so she could get some gold.
Wow, your world is really messed up.
Actually, it’s not just my world. It’s yours too.
Well, come on. We gotta do something.
How? , Jack snapped, It’s not like we’re powerful. We are just a scrawny teenager and a runt horse.
So what? His plans to ruin animal’s lives are going to work just because nobody has the courage to stop him?
Mane’s eyes meet Jack’s for a moment. Then he turned away, trotting back to his plain to rest. Staying by the forest, Jack lay back and quickly drifted off.
In the city, a dim light grew brighter, hovering down to the Governor’s office. Behind a large wooden desk, Heinakin had fallen asleep still in the upright position. The light came down next to him, slowly transforming into a being. First was the head. Long brunette hair flowed over most of the face, but what could be seen were two deep green eyes and full red lips. Her nose was perfectly shaped. Her body was materializing, revealing a loose red cloth barely clinging to her body. It was torn and wrapped around her right arm like a snake. As her legs came, a dark blue skirt fell just above her knees. The very last things were simply bare feet.
Creeping around the office, she searched for the governor’s book. This book had his plan to destroy nature. Thumbing through his bookshelf, the magical creature was suddenly shocked. She found it. A grin slowly crept up her face. Now the plan was hers for the taking. She looked around the room making sure no traps were set. Her hand slid onto the new leather binding. She pulled. A loud noise erupted. Quickly turning her head, the thief saw Heinakin say,” Raipe, get your fairy butt out of her.” Raipe closed her eyes, hoping what she saw would go away. Immediately afterward a bump echoed into the now quiet room as the Governor fell asleep and hit his head on his desk. The fairy released he held breath realizing it was only sleep talking. All attention back on the book, she moved the hair out of her face.
Slowly reaching out, her hand was trembling. Finally, her hand made second contact with the book. After the book was in her possession, she slid it into a bag and replaced the old one with a dummy copy. A bright flash filled the room. Awakening, Heinakin searched the room for an intruder. Any thing that was in there had already left.
The bright yellow sun lifted across the meadow. As rays landed on the inhabitants, everything came to life. Birds sang, horses neighed, and owls hooted as they retreated back to sleep for the day. No person had ever witnessed something as breath taking as this. Today was no exception. Jack was still asleep; the shadows from the trees covered his eyes. He looked peaceful. His hands were under his head, providing a rough pillow. Lying on his stomach, he seemed defenseless. His eyes opened to narrow slits. He’s finally awake. Sitting up, Jack noticed Mane immediately. He was isolated, just like Jack. Jack realized Mane needed him, and he need Mane. After a few minutes, he got the courage to walk up to him. Mane looked back with wide eyes.
Hey, Jack! Mane exclaimed excitedly.
Hi… Jack weakly responded. Listen, about last night. I’m sorry. I get mad like that sometimes. I didn’t mean to insult you.
That’s ok. I’m used to it.
Well, thanks for understanding. Jack turned away and started walking.
Hey! Where are you going? Mane shouted. I thought we were going to stop that governor and Raipe. At this Jack stopped. He knew what he had to do.
All right Mane lets go if you want to.
Yeah! Mane exploded in excitement. While he was jumping around, Jack knew something was wrong.
Back in the city, papers flew everywhere. The governor was searching through his files searching for his budget plans. Raipe was acting dumb, for after a while she realized the paper was in the book she stole.
“Where is it”, Heinakin shouted as he threw more papers.
“Maybe you misplaced it. Why don’t you just print out a new one?” Raipe suggested.
As usual, he responded with an ignorant answer. “Don’t you think I would try something like that first? My files have been wiped. Some one had to have been in here last night. That’s the only way!”
While he wasn’t looking, Raipe snickered because the files were another part of her handy work. “Well, why don’t you hold a press conference to…”
Interrupting,” Well, gee lets hold a press conference so every one will know what I’m planning to do, that’s a wonderful idea.”
Raipe was just about fed up with his attitude. One swipe of her finger and he could be gone, but she knew she couldn’t do that. “Well than, is you don’t want my help, you can look on your own.” She stormed out of the room, leaving Heinakin speechless.
“Wait!” He called down the corridor.” Man, now I’ll never get this found.”
Down the hallway, Raipe turned into the Woman’s restroom. Sitting in a stall, she used her magic to open a screen on what the governor was up to. Still flustered red, he seemed like he was going to explode with anger. Seconds after opening this window, Raipe had been cracking up and had to close it in case some one heard her and decided to look in to check if she was ok. Now, it was back to business and she headed out to her office.
Moving away the fern standing between him and possible perish, Jack pushed it away revealing a whole new world to Mane.
Wow, what a sight! What’s all this made of? Mane exclaimed.
Well, we call it metal. It is taken from the planets ground and melted into shapes in molds.
Cool…
Well let’s go. We don’t want to get stuck in the streets at night. Trust me. Squeezing through two trees, Jack led Mane through the dangers of the city. People stared. Who wouldn’t? A teenager was walking through downtown with a horse. Real common. Several people tried to get Jack interested using lines like ”Hey, want a good time?” or “Want to see something even better than that horse you got there?” Since Jack had been raised on the streets, he convinced Mane to become oblivious of all people. Taking his advice, Mane realized they had stopped minutes later at a building taller than all the others. A red and black flag flew above, but he couldn’t read it before Jack started to talk to him.
Ok, Mane. What we are doing isn’t exactly legal so be quiet.
Got’cha.
Ok lets do this quickly. Follow me. Since Mane was so small, he easily squeezed through the entrance to the Grand Building. Popping his head in, Jack checked for people inside. Sitting in a desk was a single secretary. Signaling Mane to stay low and move in, he started to crawl on his stomach. Staying low, they managed to go in unnoticed into the room that they assumed was the Governor’s office. Stretching out his legs Mane stood directly up, ready to pounce on the man trying to take over his home. Grinding his teeth, he noticed not a man, but a brunette girl who looked completely surprised. Who is this?
“Raipe, the Lt. Governor. She works with Heinakin.
“No!” Raipe shouted. “Don’t hurt me!”
“Why shouldn’t we? You were the one who got the governor in office by rigging the elections.”
“Listen to me for a second. I can explain.”
“That corrupt governor has killed my family, why shouldn’t I just return the favor?”
“I only did that for my agency. Look. I’m a secret agent for F.P.D.” Raipe pulls out a black book with a gold badge that had the letters F.P.D. inscribed on it. “It stands for Fairy Protection Department. There are actually thousands of fairies living in that forest. I had to rig the election to make sure he got in. All the other candidates didn’t have the knowledge.”
Should we believe her?
“ Of course you should, ” Raipe said confidently.
“Wait,” Mane thought simultaneously with Jack’s talking, ”you can understand him?”
“Of course, fairies have a sixth sense to talk with animals. You must be part fairy, uhm… I’m sorry I didn’t catch your name. It’s Jack, and this is Mane.”
“Well Jack,” she continued, “lets go finish the job.”
The team exited out into the hallway leading down to the office of Heineken’s office.
“Everyone got the plan?”
“Yep!” Both Jack and Mane knew what to do.
Creaking open the door, Raipe threw in a ball of fire that floated in the air. “Raipe, stop messing around and get in here.”
Mane kicked open the door and Jack threw the rope at the man, like instructed, and he was trapped immediately.
“I don’t understand, why would you do this to me? You were my first pick for Lt. Governor.”
“ I was never on you side. I’m with the F.P.D. and you are under arrest for endangering a magical creature.”
“But, but, my plan was flawless!”
“Not flawless enough, jerk.” Jack stated rudely.
“Easy, Jack. We don’t want him to be intimidated before his rights are read” Hearing this former Governor Heinakin silenced to prevent saying anything he might regret.
Well, my home is safe, but what will happen to Jack?
“Technically, since we need a new governor, Jack can take his place. A simple change to the law here…”
“Wow, thanks, but, uh, do you mind doing one more thing?”
“Mmmh?
“Could you make so there’s a stable connected to my office, so Mane could stay if he wanted to.”
I would love to!
“Then it’s settled,” Raipe concluded, “You two will live here and I might even drop in for a couple of visits.”
“You are always welcome. I hope you and your organization give Heinakin what he deserves.”
“Don’t worry, we know what to do with him.”
Raipe flew Heinakin out of the building and outside a riot was waiting. They were outraged by Heinakin’s decisions and wanted to get back. Seeing him being carried off, they all cheered. Some threw garbage at the horrible leader, making sure not to hit the hero who was taking him out. Now, Jack could run the city his way, the right way
