huh?

I loved the first 3 but his fourth book was horrible. I read about 3/4 but I absolutely could not finish it for the life of me.

I was referring to my topic title >_>

I agree, the fourth book was a struggle. I think the idea of the Iron Islands attacking the mainland and thinking they can actually conquer is preposterous. I mean, how many men could they possibly have living on those islands?

That among many other problems with the book.

What really pissed me off was that I was looking forward to that princess >cant remember her name now< was going to attack the kingdom with her dragons and everything it was going to be awesome. And whats she doing? Sitting in a city picking her nose surrounded by that huge insanely powerfull fearless slave army.

You do realise that she will have a much larger section of the next book, right?
GRRM has to be one of my favourite authors, along with Erikson, Bakker, Lynch and a few others, SoIaF is definitely much better than 98% of fantasy out there, so yes, I'd consider myself to be a fan.

I'm a regular at the main A Song of Ice and Fire message board and am a HUGE fan of the books. His first three books were quite possibly the best fantasy ever written. Intelligent plots, witty dialog, grit and moral ambiguity, three dimensional characters, epic action without skimping on the details of the intrigue. Easily the best epic fantasy out there at the moment. Yeah he does take a while on the books. And the 4th one was a noticeable dip in quality. Largely because of the plodding pace and lack of progression. But I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on the rest, he's easily earned that much.

And in the meantime I'll read Lynch and Bakker.

my favourite book series ever. his style of writing is amazing, especially how he writes the whole series through dozens of different points of view. my favourite pov's are tyrion, theon, jon, and arya.

I read the lord of the rings when I was 11, and I'm soon 21. so I have a good amount of series under my belt. no other series has ever come close to this one in my eyes, and it's not even finished yet.
