I went back two pages and saw nothing on this topic and I'm curious as to what other people's opinions are so here goes.

Comparing Beowulf as an epic and as a movie.

I personally am not going to see the movie, but from what I've seen from promos on TV it's terrible.
I've heard from friends that if you don't care about the epic it is a great movie to see.

Supposedly it is exactly like the movie 300, (THIS | IS | SPARTA; I | AM | BEOWULF) Now I know an opinion cannot be based on just one line in both movies but the characters shown in the previews for Beowulf look nothing like one would imagine. Why would Grendel's mother be played by Angelina Jolie? Isn't she supposed to be hideous?

Again, if there is a topic already posted about this I'm sorry.

Grendel's mother as a hideous monster was an interpretation of the story that does not receive universal academic support. Difficulties in translation and interpretation have pegged her as everything from a monstrous beast, to some nordic Valerye warrior woman, to a cunning seductress. Each interpretation has its share of supporters in the academic community, its just that Grendel's mom as a monster has gotten more 'airtime' in modern retellings.
