LotR is one of the few cases where it's faster to read the book then watch the movie.

Unfortunately, I've never read any of the Lotr books, but I have watched the movies, and I liked them.
I've read all the Harry Potter books, and I liked them, but I don't really like the movies.
Gotta go with Lotr though.

Tolkien. By far for me.
I've read almost every single book Tolkien has published.

Harry Potter or LotR...for what? Better book? More fun to read book. the one you liked more, enjoyed more? Which is more important to the fantasy genre? Which one is a more important work of literature? Better prose? Better storytelling?
What the hell are you asking?

Both not very good novels imo. Harry Potter is more interesting, I guess... even though I'm currently furious at the series because of Rowling's terrible authoring skills and the atrocious movies. LOTR books, however, are extremely boring most of the time, even if the fantasy stuff in it SHOULD be more interesting.

Neither, if I want to read a kids book I'll read His Dark Materials by Phillip Pulman.
