George R.R. Martin is the best imo

'A Song of Ice and Fire' was good, thought I only got to the second book before leaving it aside some years back...

In any case, this poll seems to have died out slowly. Tolkien, probably associated primarily with Lord of The Rings, is the winner of this poll, closely followed by The Wheel of Time's acclaimed author Robert Jordan.

I would wish this topic to be bumped every so now and then. My main reason is this: there are many people on this forum who would love this style of writing, and this topi would serve well as a guide to some of the best authors around. We are, after all, a community of people primarily based on a computer game of the same genre happy.gif. The list of authors (including some others named in this thread such as George R.R. Martin) will give people some possible avenues for new reading when/if they have the time. After all, what is the main method in which people come by finding great new books: word-of-mouth. Or, in this case, a forum poll smile.gif.

I don't understand how Robert Jordan is getting so many votes.

Books 8-10 are as bad as books 1-3 are good.

And George Martin let us down with book 4 of fire and ice.

I didn't find book 9 of WoT lacking all that much... are you sure we're talking about the same book here laugh.gif?

My vote, after careful consideration, goes to Robert Jordan. This is due to the fact that between intensive exam studies I have re-read 'A New Spring' and The World of Robert Jordan's 'The Wheel of Time'' and I find them rather good.

agreed robert jordans the wheel of time is my fav
