I usually read about a dozen books at a time, and one book usually takes several weeks to pass through the ol' system if it's sufficently long. Most of the books I read are considered "hard" reads, since I generally read philosophy, physics, history, biology and literature/plays for recreation, but I don't find that any particular type of book takes the longest. I guess technical books appear to take longer, because they are generally more condensed (they use fewer characters).
*notes* ... the conversation in this thread on what counts as a "hard" read would benefit from consideration of different reading levels, background experience, cultural location, etc. I don't find philosophy texts any more difficult to read than
Harry Potter books; in fact, I find the
Potter stuff perhaps more difficult in at least one sense, because they tend to stimulate my imagination more than do (most) philosophy texts; contrariwise, philosophy texts tend to be "harder" by being a bit more tedious/laborious and etc. So don't worry about the fvcking snobs and cheers folks,
