Sword of truth series is awesome, I'd also look at The Wheel of Time series, and Lords of the Land series.

The Black Magician Trilogy by Trudi Canavan
The Cloudmage Trilogy by S.L. Farell

The Wheel of Time series-Robert Jordan

A Song of Ice and Fire series-George RR Martin (Mature content)

A Song of Ice and Fire series-George RR Martin
^this so hard. Dont touch anything if you havent read that series yet. It blows everything else away, dead serious.

Wheel of time is fun, but
The characters get annoying fast (nyvavene pulls on braid furiously for the 3000000000 time while perin whines) and the author croaked so its a 13+ book series w/o a real ending :(

I loved the wheel series back when I read in in the 90's, its a good series, it just gets so.....drawn out.

Another good series that reads terribly (just all over the place) but feels really satisfying is malazin book of the fallen. Several books in the series, and one or two are just flat out terrible, but when its good its really good.

No, Salvatore sucks dick, it's only worth reading if you're 10 years old, anyone older should go for something better.

Vouch. I read the drizzt trilogy that started with his living in the elf city underground years ago, it was ok. Read some of his other stuff, throwaway garbage.

Nothing beats the Xanth series when it comes to fantasy.
