This book is required in most secondary schools because it contains a lot of literary 'mechanisms' for a lack of a better term.

^ This is so true.

I think that the book would have been more enjoyable if it were to be read leisurely instead of as required reading. In my classroom setting, it was too much of a scavenger hunt for themes represented by Fitzgerald's use of colors.

50 fucking wasted pages describing how green is grass is, or how tea tastes, or what he thinks about his friends, or what he thinks about what he is thinking about while he thinks about his childhood. Hands down the most boring thing i was ever forced to read. The only theme Gatsby represented was boredom. To this day i shudder when i see it, hear it mentioned or i'm forced to read a million metaphors in a book.
