Can't believe anyone would ever mention Steinbeck and boring in the same sentence, such a shame that most of you don't appreciate the best novel about the dust bowl era ever written.

Anyway mine are either The Awakening or Heart of Darkness, while both are supposed to be landmark books in a sense I just could not get interested in them at all.

The Grapes of Wrath could certainly be called "the best novel about the dust bowl era ever written", but really, how many well-known novels about that period are there?

Heart of Darkness is phenomenal. The Grapes of Wrath is boring; on the other hand, his Of Mice and Men is great. The Scarlet Letter is boring [and vastly overrated, Hawthorne's other work is much better].

Interpretation of Dreams by Sigmund Freud
The dreams were interesting but the rest (90% of the book) is torturously dry reading.

It's funny, other than Of Mice and Men, I cant stand Steinbeck. In regards to Kate Chopin, I thought The Awakening was brillant.

To each his own, I guess

I thought Blood Meridian was deadly boring.
McCarthy's style is unappealing to me - doesn't hold my interest.
All person preference though.
