Rand from WoT because he is going insane.

or Hawk from The Shannara series ( Armageddon's Children ) because he is clueless and probably the most powerful character in the series and he doesn't even know it.

No he's not.

If you want a good actually insane character go read Bakker's Prince of Nothing series. Cnaiur is most definitely insane.

raistlin majere-This is a given, one badass wizard love the interesting struggle between himself and fistanditulus, but when it ends, who is truly in control?

Belgarath - Sly, Deceitfull, Thief, Lush, And a Drunk...and he is one of the good guys! (Belgariad Series-David Eddings)

Owen Deathstalker - A Hero because he can't look away, a leader because he his the only one his group trusts, a monster for what he is capable of, but in the end his humility and self-sacrifice conquers all (Deathstalker Series - Simon R Green)

Harry Dresden - A smartass wizard in today's time that advertizes. Gotta love it, hell even the tv show based on it was good.

Just a few that i can think of...

Yamamoto Tsunetomo from Hagakure the book of the samurai. Without a doubt the most focused, honourable warrior ive ever read about in a novel.

here are some quotes from Hagakure.

"It is bad when one thing become two, one should not look for anything else in the way of Samurai"

"According to what one of the elders said taking an enemy on the battlefield is like a hawk taking a bird, even though it wanders into the midst of a thousand of them it gives no attention other to any bird other than the one that it has first marked."
