There's a really great local author from my area(Miami) who wrote a series of dragon novels that were very entertaining. First time i read a whole series that kept my interest other than harry potter.

In order of date:
The Dragon Delasangre
Dragon Moon
The Seadragons Daughter
A Host of Dragons

Definitely worth a read for people that like shapeshifters , these dragons are human/dragon combonations and the books really tell a good strong story.

Also on my Favorite most interesting books list,

The Giver
The Alchemist
Charleine Harris's- True blood series

Kafka On the Shore by Haruki Murakami

I have only read 5 books by him, but this one were truly inspiring, and still a little bit bizarre.

The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Couldn't say just one :p

Reasons to why those two books: I've always been fascinated how someone can create something big merely out of their imagination. Tolkien's imagination combined with his extraordinary skills in English literature and language makes his works just incredible. Read these if you want to be fascinated by incredible skills in writing.

That is a terribly small world compared to The Sword of Truth and Game of Thrones, and even Darktower. Though Darktower is a terrible series. Probably because I could not get the picture of Clint Eastwood out of my head as the main character.
